EXPLORE THE CITY FROM A DIFFERENT ANGLE: OUR TIPS FOR VISITING LYON

Here beats the heart of Lyon and Verdun 1882. Between the Rhône and the Saône, the Presqu'île lives to the rhythm of the shopping streets, the authentic "bouchons" and the craftsmen's shops. It conceals many treasures that you can discover on foot from the hotel, rue de la Charité in the middle of the Presqu'île. Once you cross the threshold, you are in the street of Lyon's food trades. It is not lacking in picturesqueness, with its characterful buildings, its private mansions such as the Musée des Tissus et des Arts Décoratifs, its historic addresses and its independent shops.

Just a 5-minute walk away, rue Auguste Comte, one of the most beautiful streets in Lyon, known as the street of antique shops, combines art and art of living. The old meets with the modern with taste and charm. Here and there are magnificently decorated facades or beautiful wooden doors. Four "traboules" wind from the street. Among them, a pretty interior courtyard decorated with a fountain allows you to go from 35 rue Auguste Comte to the rue des remparts d'Ainay.

The Hôtel de Verdun 1882 is located in the Charité Ainay district, a favourite neighbourhood of the Lyon aristocracy from the 18th century and then of the upper middle classes in the 19th century. This small part of the Presqu'île has managed to transform itself while preserving its soul. An air of Saint Germain des Prés from another era...

Nearby, La Confluence, a creative eco-neighbourhood combining boldness and sustainable development, attracts the eye with its contemporary museum, its docks and its shopping and leisure centre.

Our -not objective- guide to Lyon

We invite you to discover the good addresses we have tested with our little "not objective" guide to Lyon, which you can consult at the reception desk. On the programme: our real favourites. Over the years, we have perfected various short or full-day itineraries, on foot from the hotel and sometimes off the beaten track, around an inner courtyard, an atypical façade or a business that only the people of Lyon know. We share with you OUR LYON, the one that will make you want to come back. To live like a Lyonnais, you will do your shopping in our district or at the Halles, you will find a treasure at the Puces du Canal, a real institution, you will have a good time and you will sit down for a drink or a mâchon.

If you prefer peace and quiet, enjoy a shady break in the garden of the Musée des Beaux-Arts, an oasis of calm and beauty in the former cloister of the Saint Pierre monastery, where statues by Rodin and Bourdelle meet.

A stroll along the Rhône quayside, which are designed for pedestrians and cyclists, will take you from the hotel to the Tête d'Or park, a 117-hectare oasis of greenery.

Le Café Comptoir ABEL: more than a bouchon In Lyon, it's an institution.

Its period décor bears witness to this. Waxed parquet floors,
shimmering woodwork, French-style ceilings, vast mirrors, paintings and objects found here and there by the successive owners. You can walk from one room to the next, passing through the kitchen area. The first floor is reached by a wooden spiral staircase, as if it had been dug out with a corkscrew.
"Be careful not to get off the boat", say the people of Lyon!

Le troqueT: A table of local produce, good wines and conviviality between Bellecour and Perrache in Lyon.

A place like home where regulars, curious people and local shopkeepers, but above all epicureans, pass by for discussions and laughter around a nice selection of wines from producers, and regional products declined in dish of the day, spreads, tapas, boards or suggestions...

A large bar with a warm room and a floor for large tables and groups. But the most interesting thing is on the plate: regional products offered as tapas, salads or hot dishes of the week.

TRABOULES AND STOPPERS

To discover the city in a different way, there is nothing like visiting the traboules. These are passages built between two streets through the courtyards of buildings. The secret city is revealed there, that of the Renaissance, especially in Vieux-Lyon and its Italian influence, that of the canuts of the Lyonnaise factory on the slopes of the Croix-Rousse. The most secret traboules are not accessible - but shhh - we can advise you on how to discover hidden places far from the crowds.

After these original walks, it is impossible not to sit down in a Bouchon!

Lyon and its Bouchons have a long history... True institutions, they are recognisable by their picturesque and warm decoration. They offer good, simple, typical dishes, based on fresh local products and of course prepared on the spot: quenelles, cochonnaille, tablier de sapeur, poultry liver cake, brioche sausage, cervelle de canuts, tarte à la praline... Here again, we will give you our favourite addresses...

Dreaming, strolling, visiting...

Even though the city is a large metropolis, the people of Lyon like to take their time and enjoy the pleasures of life. We invite you to do like them and enjoy the moment. We will be happy to offer you a tailor-made itinerary according to your wishes.

We are ideally located in the centre of Lyon so that you can discover the main areas of the city on foot and by bike. The first metro station and two tram lines are only 5 minutes away on foot. Place Bellecour, La Confluence, Vieux Lyon, Croix Rousse, or Fourvière and its basilica offer unforgettable escapes.

For running enthusiasts, cross the bridge from the 1882, and off you go! The banks of the Rhône offer you a superb playground.
